Design Considerations

Just like any other assignment, implementing renewable assignments effectively requires you to think through foundational instructional design considerations, as well as some specific to OP:

• Ensure alignment with course learning outcomes.
• Provide clear instructions and rubrics to guide students in work that may be unfamiliar to them.
• Offer students choice and agency, possible in terms of content and more germane to OP in how their work is made open.
• Instruct about and use open licensing (e.g., Creative Commons).
• Scaffold the assignment to support skill development and enable students to recognize progress towards the deliverable.
• Encourage reflection and peer feedback.
