Open Pedagogy Toolkit: Module 4

Connect Student Work to Real Audiences

Think about who can benefit from the students’ work? Future students, the community, scholars in the field? OP is most powerful when student work has a real audience beyond the instructor. There are many possibilities for partnering with or where to publish. Some partnership opportunities include libraries, community organizations, nonprofits, and campus offices. Students can publish work in open repositories, Purdue’s institutional repository, or a class website. Authentic audiences will increase accountability, relevance, and pride.

Examples:

  • Students create open guides for first-year students.
  • Students document local history or community knowledge.
  • Students produce policy briefs or informational resources for public use.
