Library Resources

Purdue Libraries offers a range of services and tools to help instructors reduce the cost of course materials and increase student access. From linking to existing library content, to creating interactive reading lists, placing items on course reserve, or requesting new acquisitions, we’re here to support your efforts to make learning more affordable and equitable for all students.

Explore the options below to discover how library resources can enhance your course while minimizing costs for students.

  • Search the Catalog: Check to see if Purdue Libraries has access to material that you already use for your course. There may be journal articles or online book chapters that can replace an expensive textbook for your course.
  • Create Reading Lists (Leganto): Reading lists (Leganto) integrates with Brightspace to give students easy access to all course readings in one place. Instructors can add or update materials anytime, track student engagement, and roll over lists each semester to save time. Use it to link to library articles or book chapters as affordable alternatives to traditional textbooks.
  • Request Libraries Purchases: Some publishers will license eBooks to libraries but many do not or limit the amount of students that can access the eBooks. Contact us to see if any of your course materials are available for purchase
  • Provide Students Access: Follow fair use guidelines and provide pdfs for your students. Contact copyright@purdue.edu for more information about fair use and copyright. Request scans through Interlibrary Loan and post them to your Reading List (Leganto).
  • Place Materials on Course Reserve: Place physical materials on course reserve for 2-hour checkout by students. Email reserves reserves@purdue.edu for assistance.
