Speakers

Gregory Brunner

Keynote & Career Panel Lunch

Gregory Brunner, an experienced scientist, award-winning professor, and principal data scientist at Esri—global market leader in GIS software, location intelligence, and mapping. He will be speaking about the rapid growth of the AI model ecosystem and the potential impact it has and will have on GIS in his talk titled, “The Burgeoning AI Model Ecosystem and Its Potential Impact on GIS.”

Keynote & Career Panel Lunch

Michael Johns is a lead geospatial product specialist at Databricks, a global data, analytics, and artificial intelligence company. He will focus on how to use Databricks to perform scaled spatial analysis while retaining full visibility and control over all of the underlying processes, code, models, and data lineage in his talk titled, “Any-Scale Spatial Analysis on Databricks.”

Career Panel Lunch

Ryan Bowe is an Aviation Project Manager at Woolpert who has more than 20 years of experience specializing in metadata creation, data quality control, and quality assurance. She has provided quality control and metadata for a range of geospatial programs, including the United States Air Force (USAF), National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Ryan is an active member of many different industry organizations and is an active presenter at aviation and geospatial conferences.

Industry presentation & Career Panel Lunch

Joan Keene is the GIS Director for Hamilton County, Indiana, whose responsibilities include ensuring the availability and accessibility of geospatial services and data for end users, managing the annual acquisition of the county’s orthoimagery data, and collaborating with Hamilton County municipalities and regional agencies on various geospatial projects. She held the position of the GIS Coordinator at Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County for 17 years prior to her current role, in which she provided GIS support for the Marion County Public Health Department and Eskenazi Hospital in Indianapolis. Joan has served as the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC)President and is currently the IGIC Board Member representing Large County Government.

Industry presentation & Career Panel Lunch

Philip Worrall has extensive experience in the mapping sciences, with five decades of experience in the field. He spent 36 years in private industry working as a photogrammetrist, GIS analyst, project engineer/manager, and GIS director. In 2008, he became the Executive Director of the Indiana Geographic Information Council (IGIC) and served as a co-representative for Indiana on the National States Geographic Council (NSGIC). Phil retired from IGIC in 2019, and currently works part-time as an independent contractor for NSGIC and as a geospatial consultant for the Hamilton County Indiana GIS Department.

Shaun Scholer

Industry presentation

Shaun Scholer leads the imagery and elevation programs for the Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO).  He received his bachelor’s degree in aviation from ISU in 1993 and a master’s degree in Geography with an emphasis on GIS and Remote sensing from ISU in 1995. During his 28 year career in GIS, he worked to foster partnerships to identify needs, determine effective GIS policy-level decisions, and implement practical, effective GIS initiatives.  Shaun has also has served in multiple leadership roles within (IGIC).

Industry presentation

Dan Council is the newest Geographic Information Outreach Coordinator for the Indiana Geographic Information Office (IGIO), working closely across the northern region of Indiana to foster relationships in theGIS community. He received his Bachelor’s in Geography from Ball State University and Master’s in Spatial Analysis from Toronto Metropolitan University. Dan has a diverse GIS background spanning multiple positions including research on crowdsourced mapping, county government, and geodemographic analysis for marketing purposes.

Research presentation

Jinjin Cai is a second-year PhD student in the Department of Computer and Information Technology at Purdue University. My research focuses on the application of multimodal AI for geo-scene classification.

Research presentation

Dr. Jinha Jung is an Associate Professor in the School of Civil Engineering at Purdue University. He received his Ph.D. degree in Geomatics – Civil Engineering, specializing in Computational Science & Engineering at Purdue University in 2011. He worked as a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Illinois at Chicago & Purdue University and worked as a faculty at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi from 2014 until he joined Purdue University in 2019. Dr. Jung is noted for his work in 1) the development of UAS based High Throughput Phenotyping system for agriculture applications, 2) developing algorithms to process UAS data for feature extraction, 3) data fusion of hyperspectral and full-waveform LiDAR data, 4) vegetation structural analysis using LiDAR data, 5) high-performance computing for advanced remote sensing algorithm development, and 6) WebGIS software development using Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).

Research presentation

Dr. Minyoung Jung is a postdoctoral research associate in the School of Civil and Construction Engineering at Purdue University. Shereceived her Ph.D. in Spatial Informatics—Civil and Environmental Engineering from Seoul National University, South Korea, in 2021. Her research centers on producing and delivering high-quality geospatial data for a range of scientific disciplines. She is currently involved in the Data-to-Science project to develop free, open-source software for managing and processing UAS and other geospatial data.
