Vocabulary Matrix for Definitions related to Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging
In the fall of 2022, a subcommittee of the Council on Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (the CoEIB) began investigating possible sources that provide definitions for many standard terms associated with diversity, inclusion, and belonging (DIB). Although there are many such glossaries provided by institutions and organizations throughout the US, it may be difficult to discern which of those resources are most relevant to libraries and information organizations, particularly those within the context of higher education. Language evolves, sometimes very quickly, and the group thought it would be best to avoid pointing to one specific resource, but rather share a few vetted and often-cited ones. This will leave the researcher of said definitions with the flexibility to determine which definition might be most applicable to their context. The spreadsheet provided offers three suggested resources and indicates what terms are defined in each respective glossary. These are, by no means, the only glossaries that are used by people engaged in this work. However we hope this will prove helpful in exploring the vocabulary and concepts of DIB.
